Paint this Stylized Butterfly with me!
P.S. if you want to chat with me or ask questions DURING the session you will need to have/create a youtube account and use the chat section there - its free and they don't make you promise to start uploading videos or anything!
And you can leave me a comment on my FaceBook page at M. Christine Landis afterwards and let me know how you liked the class and even post a pic of your artwork if you want to share it! I always enjoy seeing your work after our classes together!

Summer Time - Art Time! and this summer is rolling right along!

We're well into summer now and it's one fun art project after another for me! I've published some new art tutorial videos, and I've done a handful of online art classes via Zoom for my local library. I have one more of those classes left in August. To find info on that class, which is free for all participants, you can go to my class registration link at Register for Draw and Paint a Seahorse with Christine Landis After you register you will receive a confirmation email with any additional info you need (like supplies list, reference photo, etc.) For more information than that you can go to the Broward County Library System website and click Events; from there you select August on the calendar and look for my class on August 4th.
And my other big thing is I'm doing LiveStreams every other Friday on my YouTube Channel, and this is where you can draw, paint, chat with me in real time for an hour or so. Next one is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Friday July 18, 2021. To join me there just go to my YouTube channel at M. Christine Landis, Watercolors & Mixed Media and look for the next session in the Upcoming Livestreams section. Maybe I'll see you there!

  • Resting Up (not really...) in Winter because Spring is Coming!! Feb 7 2021

I don't know about everyone else, but I find cool weather very motivating. Maybe that's because I live in South Florida. Anyway since the holidays are over and my schedule has finally calmed down, I guess it's Winter now. For lots of the country Winter means snow and ice and everything goes dormant outside... and for many it's a time for resting from the busy Summer and Fall/Harvest seasons that just passed, and for planning for Spring.

Well, that is where I find myself now. I have been doing lots of plotting and planning and I have come up with a few new things for Spring, which here in South Florida is really just about upon us!

For starters, I have put together a new lineup of great Springtime Virtual Paint Parties! I have five pretty paintings to choose from, and two of those are my very own signature paintings. I have shown these two paintings in juried art shows, and you can actually purchase merchandise with these images on them on my Society 6 and Fine Art America pages (links below, if you want to see them). My paint parties include a FREE traceable image of the painting, so no drawing instruction here, just jumping right into creating the pretty painting, plus I'll send you a supply list that includes a heap of alternative options so that you can put your own unique spin on your artwork if you want to, or just follow along with me as I paint with watercolors, whichever way you want to go with it. Here's a link to the Registration Form, with pictures and dates/times and all the details you need to know to book your seat at a party(s) now:
    Paint Party Registration

Next, I've got a series of "How To" videos in the works on mixing your own great blacks and darks that flow with and complement your paintings, how to determine what color temperature to use to convey distance, and how to get perfect (painless) perspective into your paintings. You can watch for notifications on my Facebook page, or better yet if you haven't yet subscribed to my YouTube channel please consider doing that (it's right here: Christine's YouTube Channel) It's completely FREE and it will get you an email in your inbox each time I upload a new video.

I have another Free Art Class scheduled with the Friends of the Stirling Road Library coming up on February 19th, 1 - 2:30 p.m. We will be creating beautiful mixed media birds, a perfect springtime picture! Click on this link to register for that class: Get Zoom Link

I have several paintings entered into a couple of virtual exhibits and you can view those shows Free online by going to Art on Fire Exhibit with Gold Goast Watercolor Society and Annual Juried Exhibit with National League of American Pen Women starting Thursday, February 11, 2021. I have two more exhibits coming up so watch for those notifications soon!

By the way, if you would like to receive my sorta once monthly newsletter, click here to sign up!

Art is so much fun, and such a great way to express yourself, to stimulate your curiosity, to explore new things, to discover beauty in your own world, and just become a happier, less stressful person. So I hope you will grab one or more of these opportunities to relax and grow with me as we move into a new Spring season!

Enjoying our best creative life together,

  • 2021 News from over here in my corner (Jan 18 2021)

    Hey y'all,
(BTW, did I ever actually say that I'm originally from Texas? )
Anyway, I just wanted to give you some quick current events/information because I do have several really great things going on.  Here's a sorta bullet list:
    1)  I won a "Best in Show" Award for my painting "The Night Before The Night Before" in the "Members Love Watercolor" Exhibition by GoldCoast Watercolor Society. You can view that exhibit online through March 31, 2021 at Members Love Watercolor
    2)  I got an article in the Winter Edition of the National League of American Pen Women's National magazine!  You can read that article (with pictures!) at National League of American Pen Women - look for Featured Member in the right hand column and click on the Read More button!
    3) I'm doing a watercolor painting demo (via Zoom) for the Gold Coast Watercolor Society general members meeting, 7 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday Jan 19, 2021 (yep, that's tomorrow!) and I am allowed to invite non-member friends to attend.I will be presenting a demo of my process that I have developed over the years in my representational watercolor work, including how I choose what to paint and how I simplify a reference while still incorporating lots of detail. Here's the link if you want to join and watch:  Christine's Gold Coast Demo on Zoom

    4) I'm doing an Art with Christine Zoom session with the Stirling Road Library Friends group this Friday, Jan 22, 2021 from 1 - 2:30 p.m.  and we will be painting/creating a mixed media Blue Tang fish piece. I've also scheduled two more classes with them for February and remember these classes are free to you courtesy of the Friends of the Stirling Road Library. More details on those Feb sessions coming soon.  Here's the info you need if you want to join us:  Meeting ID 876 8073 9273  Passcode: 851441
    5) I've just published a couple more videos on my YouTube channel. They are recordings of my December Stirling Road Library sessions so they do have a big holiday season vibe, but the techniques we're using are applicable to anything you want to choose as your subject so hop over there and check those out at mixed media class pt 1 and mixed media class pt 2  And if you can click Like and give me any kind of quick comment while you're over there on my YouTube site that helps me tremendously in the quest to get my videos in front of more people!  Thanks!

I have more stuff in the works, including some more Virtual Paint Parties coming soon, so watch for those details in the near future.  You can connect with me on my website at www.mchristinelandis.com and from there you can get to my FaceBook page, my Instagram page, my YouTube channel, all my merchandise and print on demand pages, my Etsy shop, any way you want to find me... and I've recently added a "More Info" PDF's tab where you can find info on what supplies you need to do any/all of my online classes, and more in downloadable PDF format.
Let me know if you have any questions or even suggestions for class topics etc.  Right now I've gotta get back to painting!

Hope to see you soon (virtually anyhow!)

  • It's the Holiday Season! (Well, almost! and I am loving it!)

Okay, so it isn't quite Thanksgiving yet and the merry bells I hear ringing are on my own stereo... but it was just Halloween!! and besides, my neighbors have started putting out the Christmas lights and the big gingerbread kids, and the Christmas tree lots are getting set up down the street... and its gonna be my birthday! So I am getting happy! I hope you are too!

I do have several things going on, starting with I've uploaded two more art videos to my YouTube channel, and here's a link to the most recent one. Its a super fun Whimsical Holiday Angel with Heart! watercolor/mixed media (did I also say EASY?!?!?) little painting that I'm sure you will love! Let's paint this cute and whimsical little watercolor angel together and then fancy her up with some markers, pens and colored pencils! She's got a great big heart, and she's super easy to draw and fun to paint and she will make an awesome addition to your holiday decor, or a great gift for a friend. You can also draw and paint her so quickly that she is perfect for those hand-painted holiday cards you are going to impress your friends and family with this year!

And I'm starting up some Virtual Paint Parties, using the Zoom platform to connect with you and make them interactive and super fun. The Angel in my new video is only one of my available designs that you can choose from, and the cost to you is only $10 per person. I keep the classes at 15 or less attendees so that everyone has a chance to show their artwork and ask questions if they want to, and the fee includes my step-by-step instructions (naturally), and a supply list plus the drawing (I'll email those to you) so that you can transfer it onto your paper or canvas. I'm doing both watercolor and acrylic, plus mixed media projects. You choose your project and class date from my list, gather your supplies and be ready to join the Zoom session on the date and time via the link I will send you after I receive your payment (I accept PayPal and Venmo). Email or message me from my Get In Touch page to get your party started!

I've also got four more virtual Art with Christine classes scheduled with the Stirling Road Library. In December we'll be creating some watercolor/mixed media tie-dye letters in a two part series with classes on the 4th and the 11th; in January we'll paint a beautiful watercolor beach scene on the 8th, and then paint a mixed media blue tang fish on the 22nd. To join us, contact the Friends of the Stirling Road Library and ask to be added to the mailing list for Art with Christine.

Til next time, I'm staying busy making art, and dreaming of sugar plums dancing on my watercolor paper.... or just possibly in my front yard. Hmmm.... I do have my own jig saw...

  • Virtual Paint Demo at Rocklin Fine Arts Group, Rocklin, CA

Hey, here's a recording of the watercolor painting demo I did for the Rocklin Fine Arts Group out in Rocklin, California. It's very Fall themed and season appropriate, and I hope you enjoy watching!

  • October 4, 2020 Laugh, Cry, or Create some Art!

October 4, 2020 Laugh, Cry, or Create some Art!

WELL, IT’S OCTOBER! And it’s still 2020… So I’m thinking, do I laugh, cry, or create some art? Obviously I’m gonna CREATE ART!!!

As you are well aware I’m sure, this was not a banner year for in-person art shows, exhibits and classes. But it was a good time to do some re-thinking and learning new ways to share art, and I have been doing my best to keep up on that score. I’m pretty sure I’m just about to get my “computer nerd” certification thanks to all the technical stuff I’ve had to learn, LOL. So here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to and the changes I have made these past few months:

In April I began creating “How to” art videos on how to draw and paint many different subjects and publishing them to my YouTube channel, M. Christine Landis, which can be found at this link: www.youtube.com/channel/UC4yC6daT5t3cA5… . My goal is to get to a place that I’m uploading new videos there about once weekly, and remember they are always free to watch! Plus you can pause, and rewind as much as you like if you are drawing and painting along with me.

I just uploaded this one Drawing A Ghost Crab in Pencil this week, and accidentally made it season appropriate. I can’t believe I didn’t even think about it being October til after I had it completed and uploaded already! Anyway, it’s a fun little drawing project and I hope you’ll give it a try. Don’t forget to post a picture of your results onto one of my social media platforms! I would love to see them!
I am also now doing some virtual art classes, using the popular Zoom app. I have several dates scheduled (see the list below) and am available if your organization, or you and your group of friends, or even just you & your family want to plan a fun virtual paint party! How it works is:

    1) we pick a date and time, and you can choose from my list what subject you want to paint;
    2) we (I) then create and post something to promote the event online or to wherever and whoever you want it to go to, with all the pertinent info on date, time, what supplies you will need to have, plus the cost and how to pay me (I use both PayPal and Venmo as easy options and my rates start as low as $10 per person);
    3) when the date and time comes around you just click on the link to the event (that I will provide to you) and away we go!

You do need to have the Zoom app installed on your computer, laptop or cell phone, whichever you will be using, and you’ll need to be sure to do that from a computer or device that has a webcam. You don’t need any special account or anything like that once you have the Zoom app installed on your device. It’s really very easy, and a whole lot of fun! And everyone who participates finishes with a piece of artwork they created, ready to frame and hang or give as a gift!

Virtual Art Classes I have scheduled at this time:

Courtesy of the Friends of the Stirling Road Library, and FREE to participants:

    October 9, 2020 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST Draw & Paint a Toucan
    October 23, 2020 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST Draw & Paint a Flamingo
    November 6, 2020 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST Draw a Sailboat (Part 1)
    November 13, 2020 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST Paint a Sailboat (Part 2)

**You MUST register in advance to reserve your space for any/all of these classes by clicking on this link: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcodO…

Thursday, October 15, 2020, 11 a.m. PST (that’s 2 p.m. for those of us on EST) the Rocklin Fine Arts group in California is sponsoring a one hour class that you can join, at no cost to you! Just let me know you want to attend and I’ll email them your email address so that they can send you the link. We’ll be discussing the benefits of value studies, and learning a bit about painting good backgrounds in watercolor. I’ll be doing a demo so you can paint along with me if you want to.

And last but not least, I am looking into starting a weekly Live Stream Draw & Paint session where you can draw and paint with me, just watch me, or ask me questions about watercolor, etc. I am currently doing a little research into which day of the week and time of day that I want to do that. If you would like to participate in something like that please let me know, and let me know when in your schedule you think something like that might work for you.

I still have my artwork for sale on my website, plus prints and other merchandise available at Society6.com/MChristineLandis and FineArtAmerica.com/profiles/Christine-L… And you can check out my handbound blank books and journals, and other crafty items handmade by me in my Etsy shop at Etsy.com/shop/notantiques and all those things might make some nice gift ideas!

So that’s what is up with me right now. I’d love to hear from you, either via email or on my FaceBook or Instagram and of course you can always contact me through the Get In Touch tab here on my website.

  • Making A Change

    Making A Change

Wow, I can't believe how fast time flies by! We're well into the new year and here's a quick update on a change I have made: I've moved my watercolor painting classes from Dania Beach up to Boca Raton. Its still in a Hobby Lobby store classroom but its a lot closer to my home, so I've also lowered the fee for the class a little bit. You get a two hour class for $25 and you can attend weekly, monthly, or as it suits you. Just be sure to let me know when you are planning to be there and if there is anything in particular you want to work on, so that I can be prepared.

I'm also offering Book and Journal binding at this same time and same price. This is a great way to put together some of your work into a format you can carry with you to show off your stuff! I also bind some of my reference materials into book form so that I can carry them with me when I am out painting away from my studio. Supplies are super simple and easy. If interested drop me a line!

  • Making Waves this Fall Y'all!

    Making Waves this Fall Y'all!

Well, it's been a crazy busy summer for me, what with moving from Deerfield Beach to Coconut Creek, Florida, and teaching lots of painting, drawing and collage classes for the Broward County Library System's Summer Learning Program, and all the usual summer fun activities, but it was also a really good summer!

Now I'm gearing up for a busy Fall/Winter season with exhibits, art festivals and more art classes! I have many things in the works, but here's a quick run-down of some things that are already settled:

you have one more week to see my artwork on display with the National League of American Pen Women at the West Regional Library in Plantation, Florida. That exhibit runs until August 30, 2019, and is on the second floor of the library which is located at 8601 West Broward Blvd, Plantation, FL 33324.

my FIRST PLACE winning painting, Winged Summer, will be on exhibit for another three weeks at the Sugar Sand Park Community Center, 300 S Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33486. That's the Easy Livin' Exhibit, and it runs through September 16, 2019.

Look for me at the* Coconut Creek ArtsFest 2019* on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at the Coconut Creek Community Center, 1100 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, FL from 11 a.m. til 4 p.m. Admission is free and along with lots of awesome fine art there will be arts and crafts for the kids, food trucks, entertainment, live music, and plenty of family fun! This will be my third year participating with this event and I'm looking forward to an awesome day. The art displays are located indoors, as in in the air conditioning! lol, so come see me and my paintings, and a bunch of other great artists' work as well!

I am offering a 4 week watercolor course, "Making Waves in Watercolor" this Fall. It kicks off on September 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Hobby Lobby in Dania Pointe Shopping Plaza, Dania Beach, Florida. Its $35 per lesson, 15% Discount when you pay for all 4 lessons in advance, and you WILL have Fun! while learning how to make some great waves! There's more details on the flyer at the top of this post.

I teach a Beginning Drawing class at that same Hobby Lobby location on Wednesdays, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Call, message, or email me to Register and get more details!

I am still teaching arts and crafts at the Dania Beach library the second Thursday of each month from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m., and at the Weston library I teach Watercolor painting the third Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. These classes are free to you and all supplies are provided courtesy of the Friends of the Library groups of each of these local libraries.

I have some more good things in the "still working on it" bin, so watch for another update in a few weeks or so!

    Have an Artful Day!

  • Summer is here, and I hope I'm ready!

    October 23, 2018

I can't believe how fast time goes by, and how long it's been since I posted something on here! I've been working on my art, teaching a lot of workshops over the summer, and also looking to buy a house (what an education I've been getting on that score!) so I have been incredibly busy and I guess that is what makes the time go by so fast. Never a dull moment!

I've added many more of my paintings to my FineArtAmerica store where you can get prints and framed prints of my work and many more items such as tote bags, coffee cups, greeting cards and phone cases, to name a few, and I've added a whole new store at Society6, which has some of the most unique and cool merchandise options on which you can get my artwork printed, like serving trays, cutting boards, throw pillows and blankets, even some furniture! Links to these are on the Get In Touch page; check them out!

And here's a pic of my updated quarterly postcard, showing dates and locations of my upcoming workshops, and art events I'll be participating in. It isn't a complete list since I can only fit so much information in the space, but it's got a lot of the main things and if you have questions you can feel free to message me either from here via the Get In Touch page, or on Facebook.

    Happy Arting!

  • Wednesday, February 28, 2018

    Wednesday, February 28, 2018

I’ve decided to add a News page to my website! My intention is to publish my schedule of classes and workshops I’m teaching, and a list of where my artwork is on exhibit out there in “the real world,” -- which statement really bugs my daughters because they think the online world is real. And yes, I know what they mean, but I think they know what I mean too.% (If this was a text I could and would insert a smiley face here, so just imagine there is one!)%
I may also throw in some thought for the day, or snippets of poetry that I happen to be mulling over, or any other thing that may have caught my attention and made me want to share it. Because I love to share. Sharing is connecting. Especially if we’re sharing chocolates, or favorite books. Or the glue stick in art class. Sharing and connecting with the people in my life is comforting, and comfortable. I think that is why I paint the things I paint. I paint things that bring me comfort, and I want to share that comfort with those around me. I think that is why I love to teach art classes too. I love it when people put something on their paper or canvas that makes them smile. And I love knowing that I helped them do that. … I’m starting to think maybe the word for today is tangent…. Oopsie!

So, to kick things off, here’s some of that info:
